It’s odd that no one in the news media has paid much attention to a recent quote from transportation minister Todd Stone. In a response to this week’s ferry protest in Victoria, he told CTV News that each passenger on the Coastal Discovery Circle tour route is subsidized by $2,500.
The Discovery Coast Circle Tour is a B.C. Ferries tourism package, marketed to visitors from afar. The tour involves a nine-day chain of ferry travel and hotel stays on Vancouver Island and the mainland coast. I’d bet those visitors from Texas and Japan are happy they’re getting a $2,500 subsidy.
Now we know where the government’s priorities lie.
